Built at a cost of about $80,000 to $100,000 ($2,700,000 to $3,400,000 in 2023 dollars), the Neoclassical style tomb had a granite foundation, interior and exterior walls of white Vermont marble, and two Ionic columns on each side of the main entrance. The structure is 45 feet (14 m) wide, 55 feet (17 m) deep, and has a 45-foot (14 m) high dome.
The interior of the monument is designed to serve as a memorial tablet room. It features marble tablets along the outer walls on which the names of the veterans from Cuyahoga County are engraved. The inner walls, which surround the base of the large granite shaft, feature four large bronze panels.
The statue, approximately 10 feet (3.0 m) tall, depicts a male soldier. It is mounted on a stone base with bronze plaques on three sides. The artwork was installed on the building's grounds in 1930, and underwent a restoration by George Wright between 1989 and 1992.
