McAllen Memorial High School is one of five high schools serving the McAllen, Texas area as a part of the McAllen Independent School District. It houses over 2,000 students from grades 9-12. Prior to the establishment of Memorial High School, the school and its building were originally opened and operated as Brown Middle School.
Growth slowed in the 1990s, due in part to the completion of a new high school in neighboring Valley View ISD. Students from that district had attended Hidalgo High since it was reestablished in 1976. Dr. Alejo Salinas Jr. Elementary School opened in 1999. District enrollment topped 3,000 for the first time during the 2002-03 school year.
