The club was presented as a rivalry trophy in 1952 by the Notre Dame Alumni Club of Los Angeles (with all the previous games already represented with medallions), and is engraved with "From the Emerald Isle." There have been two shillelaghs. The original ran out of room in 1989 and was retired; it is now on permanent display at Notre Dame.
