Line 2 is a 29.1-kilometer (18.1 mi) north-south light metro line. After seven years of construction, the line opened for regular service on July 30, 2016. There are transfer points at Geomam (with AREX), Juan (with Seoul Subway Line 1), and Incheon City Hall (with Incheon Line 1).

In 2011 Incheon Transit Corporation merged with ′Incheon Metro′, established in 1998 to operate Incheon Subway Line 1, Incheon Subway Line 2, the section of Seoul Subway Line 7 between Kkachiul & Seongnam, & the Incheon Airport Maglev. In the future it also has plans to operate Line 3.
AREX was originally not considered part of the subway network, but following the majority buyout by Korail, who operates many of Seoul's subway lines, the commuter line was fully integrated with the rest of the Seoul Metropolitan Subway system. There are now free transfers for all Seoul and Incheon metro lines it crosses paths with.
With 66.73km of route extension, it was scheduled to win the title of the longest circular line in the world. When the initial plan was presented, the project was stranded due to lack of economic feasibility, but it is pushing ahead with its pledge to re-promote the project as a new mayor takes office. [2]
