Putnam Historic District, located in Zanesville, Ohio, was an important center of Underground Railroad traffic and home to a number of abolitionists. The district, with private residences and other key buildings important in the fight against slavery, lies between the Pennsylvania Central Railroad, Van Buren Street, and Muskingum River . [ 2 ]

Founded in 1834, Kalida was the first county seat of Putnam County. [5] Kalida is a name derived from Greek meaning "beautiful". [6] A post office has been in operation in Kalida since 1834. [7] Kalida was incorporated as a village in 1839. [8] The county seat was transferred to Ottawa in 1866. [8]

The John Edwards House is a historic building in the village of Leipsic in Putnam County, Ohio, United States. Located at 305 W. Main Street, [1] the house is a fine example of Victorian architecture. [2] In 1861, Thomas and Isabella Edwards began farming a short distance east of Leipsic.
