Wola Piotrowa [ˈvɔla pʲɔˈtrɔva] is a village in East Małopolska in the Bukowsko Upland mountains, Bukowsko rural commune. Wola Piotrowa is about 17 miles from Sanok in southeast Poland. It is situated below the main watershed at the foot of the Słonne Mountain , and has an elevation of 340 metres.
The Lemko Region (Rusyn: Лемковина, romanized: Lemkovyna; Polish: Łemkowszczyzna; Ukrainian: Лемківщина, romanized: Lemkivshchyna) is an ethnographic area in southern Poland and Northern Eastern Slovakia that has traditionally been inhabited by the Lemko people.
The wooden village church, "Patronage of the Blessed Virgin Mary", is considered a pearl of Eastern Lemko architecture. It was built in 1802, and was on the Polish Register of Historic Buildings. The church was occupied by the Greek Catholics until 1963, when it was taken over by the Orthodox.
During 1772–1918 it belonged to the Austrian empire, and later the Austrian-Hungarian empire when double monarchy was introduced in Austria. In 1785 the village lands comprised 18.93 km 2 (7.31 sq mi). Prior to the Second World War, the village was populated by a majority of Lemko Greek Catholics, and some Jewish families.
