The primary purpose of these categories is to facilitate manual or automated checking of text in other languages. This category should only be added with the {} family of templates, never explicitly. For example {{Lang|ru|text in Russian language here}}, which wraps the text with < span lang = "ru" >.
The {} template and its variants support all ISO 639 language codes, correctly identifying the language and automatically italicizing for you. Please use these templates rather than just manually italicizing non-English material. (See WP:Manual of Style/Accessibility § Other languages for more information.)
This is a template for compatibility with the publication (publikatsiya) template from Russian Wikipedia. Most parameters are optional. Some parameters have English alternative names, such as "volume=" for "том=" or "pages=" for "страницы=" where the display format can differ somewhat for the English-named parameters.
