Overpronation means your foot rolls inward a little too much when you run (or walk!). Shoes designed for overpronation provide an extra touch of support and stability to help correct this motion.
Pronation is a natural movement of the foot that occurs during foot landing while running or walking. Composed of three cardinal plane components: subtalar eversion , ankle dorsiflexion , and forefoot abduction , [ 1 ] [ 2 ] these three distinct motions of the foot occur simultaneously during the pronation phase. [ 3 ]
The most common is an inversion (rolling out) ankle sprain, which makes up 70-80% of cases, followed by pronation of the foot, which is responsible for about 20-30% of cases. [3] More rarely, excessive physical activity and other forms of foot trauma/chronic ankle injury are thought to be the cause.
Any part of the foot can be affected by diseases, with symptoms ranging from mild aches to more serious pain hindering one's ability to walk or bear weight. Most minor cases of foot pain can be responded to by home care treatments. However, when severe pain is present, medical attention is required as it is a disabling condition.
