The museum covers the history of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea (Korean Provisional Government; KPG). That organization was established in 1919 in exile during the 1910–1945 Japanese colonial period and resisted the colonization. [1] The museum was first conceptualized in 2017.
In August 2002, the Hangzhou city government purchased the land surrounding the memorial hall. [2] [3] In April 2005, it began restoring the building and converting it into a museum. [2] These efforts were done in collaboration with the Independence Hall of Korea. [1] The museum was opened on November 30, 2007. [2]
The Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea (Korean Provisional Government, KPG), a government-in-exile established by Koreans in China during the 1910–1945 Japanese colonial period, stayed around this area in Changsha from November 1937 to July 1938.
