The Newhaven-Dieppe service was closed in early 1999. P&O Stena was replaced on the route by Transmanche Ferries and Hoverspeed. In April 2002, P&O announced its intention to buy out the 40% stake in P&O Stena Line owned by Stena and this was completed by August. P&O Stena Line then became part of P&O Ferries.
Dieppe Maritime station (French: Gare Maritime de Dieppe) was a railway station in the town of Dieppe, Seine-Maritime, France and was built by CF de l'Ouest in 1874. The station was the station for passengers from Paris to Newhaven, by steamers and then ferries. Steam ships began crossing the English Channel in 1816 and linked Dieppe to Brighton.

Though these have been reduced in the 21st century, Newhaven still provides regular ferry services and continues to be used as an important freight terminal.
