Loch Resort or Loch Rèasort is a large sea loch on the west coast of the island of Lewis and Harris in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. Its north shore forms a part of Lewis and its south shore a part of Harris .
The area has strong historical links with the Jacobite rising of 1745, with Loch nan Uamh being the place where Charles Edward Stuart first landed in Scotland: the row of beech trees known as the Seven Men of Moidart commemorates the rising. The picturesque ruins of Castle Tioram also add to the scenic beauty of the area. [11]
Eilean Shona (Scottish Gaelic: Eilean Seòna) is a tidal island situated at the entrance of Loch Moidart, on the west coast of Scotland, just north of the Ardnamurchan Peninsula. The island is 525 hectares (1,300 acres) in area, with the highest point being Beinn a' Bhàillidh at 265 metres (869 ft).
A vast number of lochs and lochans surround Lochan Fada. To the north-west lies the largest at Fionn Loch. The loch is located at an elevation of 316 metres (1,037 ft) [2] about 2 miles (3.2 km) NE of Loch Morlich. Its length is 460 metres (1,510 ft). [1] It lies at the foot of the Eastern flanks of the Greag Nan Gall (622 m). [5] The lake is considered by geologists a good example of a morainic tarn. [6]
The Sportscotland National Centre Glenmore Lodge is situated about 1.5 km east of Loch Morlich, and is surrounded by the park. [10] During the Second World War the area was a training base for Norwegian resistance fighters, who are commemorated by a memorial located near to the visitor centre. [11]
The River Moidart enters the loch at its head, near the hamlet of Ardmolich. Various views of the loch have featured as an Apple TV screensaver since 2021. [1] The A861 runs along the loch's northern shore; it is a remote circuitous route which connects to the A830 at both ends, without passing through any significant settlements.
