In 1971 Dassault acquired Breguet, forming Avions Marcel Dassault-Breguet Aviation (AMD-BA). In 1990 the company was renamed Dassault Aviation, and is a subsidiary of Dassault Group . Dassault Aviation has been headed by Éric Trappier since 9 January 2013.

Unveiled at the 2001 Paris Air Show , its first flight took place on 5 May 2005 and it entered service on 15 June 2007.
