[ 27 ] [ 28 ] Although Hillbilly Elegy states that he adopted his grandparents' surname of Vance upon his marriage in 2014, [ 29 ] the name change actually occurred in 2013, as Vance was about to graduate from Yale with a Juris Doctor degree.
