The Joliet East Side Historic District is a set of 290 buildings in Joliet, Illinois.Of these 290 buildings, 281 contribute to the historical integrity of the area. Joliet was founded in 1831, deemed an ideal place for a settlement to reap the local natural resources.
It has a sprawling, irregular shape that extends into nine different townships, more than any other Illinois city. They are: Joliet, Plainfield, Troy, New Lenox, Jackson, Channahon, and Lockport in Will County, and Na-Au-Say and Seward in Kendall County. Joliet developed along the Des Plaines River, and its downtown is located in the river valley.
Since a 2008 realignment, US 30 passes a mile (1.6 km) to the north of downtown Plainfield on 143rd Street, then turns south onto IL 59 (Division Street) for approximately one mile (1.6 km). Southeast of downtown, US 30 leaves IL 59 and heads southeast toward Joliet.

Currently, IL 7 runs from U.S. Route 6 (US 6) at Rockdale north through Joliet, and Crest Hill into Lockport, and then east to Orland Park before terminating at IL 43 in Worth. IL 7 runs for about 28.06 miles (45.16 km). [1]
The route followed by IL 171 from Joliet to Summit was originally a Native American trail. [6] [8] It can be found on a map from 1837. [9] This original trail continued northeast beyond Summit around the southern shore of historic Mud Lake as a dry land route past the marshy Chicago Portage, ending where Downtown Chicago is now.
