The house was built in 1849 by Josiah Davis and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 12, 1976. [1]Henry David Thoreau moved to this home in 1850 with his family; he stayed until his death on May 6, 1862. [2]
The Estabrook Woods is a wild tract of more than 1,700 acres (6.9 km 2) of woodland, hills, ledge, and swamp straddling Concord and Carlisle Massachusetts, two miles (3 km) north of the center of Town of Concord. [1] It is the largest contiguous and undeveloped woodland within thirty miles of Boston. [2]
