The National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) is a nationwide examination for the licensing of nurses in the United States, Canada, and Australia since 1982, 2015, and 2020, respectively. [2] [3] There are two types: the NCLEX-RN and the NCLEX-PN. After graduating from a school of nursing, one takes the NCLEX exam to receive a nursing license.
ANCC ensures nurses have access to quality continuing education offerings. Continuing education classes are calibrated to educate all levels of nurses. Many States require continuing education. Nursing licensing boards typically accept courses provided by organizations accredited by other licensing boards, by the ANCC, or its designees. [17]
All U.S. state and territorial boards also require passage of the NCLEX-PN exam. In Canada (except for Québec [ 2 ] ), the education program is two years of full-time post-secondary and students must pass the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Exam (CPNRE), [ 3 ] administered by the for-profit Yardstick Assessment Strategies.
