The Faculty of Law of Charles University (Czech: Právnická fakulta Univerzity Karlovy) is one of the original four faculties of Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. Founded in 1348 by Charles IV on the basis of a bull of Pope Clement VI, it is the oldest law school in the Czech Republic and Central Europe. [1] [2]
The name Panthéon-Assas is a reference to the main addresses of the pre-1968 Faculty of Law of Paris, which are now part of the university; namely, the buildings on Place du Panthéon and Rue d'Assas. [16] The university is also referred to as 'Assas' or 'Paris II,' 'Sorbonne-Assas' and 'Sorbonne Law School'. [17] [18] [19] [20]
The law school is ranked within the top 25 law faculties in the world across the two major global rankings by subject (Times Higher Education and Quacquarelli Symonds). Nationally, the faculty is ranked first in the Netherlands in the Times and QS, both times followed in second place by the Faculty of Law of the University of Amsterdam.
