The term marimba refers to both the traditional version of this instrument and its modern form. Its first documented use in the English language dates back to 1704. [1] The term is of Bantu origin, deriving from the prefix ma-meaning 'many' and -rimba meaning 'xylophone'. The term is akin to Kikongo and Swahili marimba or malimba. [2]
Xẩm or Hát xẩm (Xẩm singing) is a type of Vietnamese folk music which was popular in the Northern region of Vietnam but is considered nowadays an endangered form of traditional music in Vietnam. In the dynastic time, xẩm was performed by blind artists who wandered from town to town and earned their living by singing in common places.

Son Rompe Pera was formed in 2017 by brothers Jesús "Kacho" Gama and Allan "Mongo" Gama. Their late father, José Dolores "Batuco" Gama Melchor, owned a marimba so the Gama brothers played alongside him in the streets and at weddings and parties. [3] The band's name is a reference to their mother's name, Esperanza "Pera" Ruiz. [4]
