Togus VA Medical Center is a facility operated by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs in Chelsea, Maine. The facility was built as a resort hotel, and housed Union veterans of the American Civil War prior to being converted to a veterans hospital. It was the first veterans facility developed by the United States government.
The site that is now the Togus VA facility is the first veterans facility established by the United States. It was established by an act of Congress in 1866, to provide a space for "any worthy soldier" who was "suffering such a degree of disability" so as to need such a facility. [3]

State Route 226 (SR 226) is a state highway located in southern Kennebec County, Maine.It begins at SR 27 and SR 126 in Randolph and runs 5.50 miles (8.85 km) northeast to SR 17 in Chelsea.
