Whickham is a village in Tyne and Wear, North East England, [1] within the Metropolitan Borough of Gateshead. The village is on high ground overlooking the River Tyne and 5 miles (8 km) south-west of Newcastle upon Tyne .

Whickham South and Sunniside is a local council ward in the Metropolitan Borough of Gateshead. This ward covers an area of around 5.6 square miles (14.5 km 2), [5] and has a population of 8,313. [6] As of September 2020, the ward is served by three councillors: John McClury, Jonathan Charles Wallace and Marilynn Ord. [7]
