The derbies between the Club Africain (CA) and Espérance de Tunis (EST) start during the season 1923–1924, when the African Club joins the EST in second series (promotion 1): the first official derby, which takes place on March 23, 1924, at the Ariana on behalf of the fifth day of the championship of the second series, is won by the African Club (3-0).
The club currently plays in the Tunisian Ligue Professionnelle 1. Club Africain was the first Tunisian club to win an international trophy, when they won the Maghreb Cup Winners Cup in 1971. Twenty years later, in 1991, Club Africain became the first Tunisian team to win the African Champions League .

Espérance Sportive de Tunis (EST, French pronunciation: [ɛs.pe.ʁɑ̃s spɔʁ.tiv də ty.nis] ⓘ) and in Arabic: الترجي الرياضي التونسي, romanized: (Attaraji ar-Riyāḍi Attūnisī, or simply as Attaraji ⓘ), and nicknamed "Mkashkha", The Elder of Tunisian Clubs, The Blood and Gold Club and The Beast of Africa is a Tunisian professional sports club.
The team would be finalist four consecutive times from 1967 to 1970. Mazembe was the first team to successfully defend the African Champions Cup. This feat was finally repeated in 2003 and 2004 by Enyimba. After 18 years of absence, it returned to the African scene thanks to 38-year-old governor Moïse Katumbi Chapwe and owner of the club.
