Donald James Ross (November 23, 1872 – April 26, 1948) [1] was a professional golfer and golf course designer. Ross was born and raised in Scotland but moved to the United States as a young man. Ross designed dozens of courses across North America and is generally regarded as one of the top golf course designers of all time.
The course was designed by Donald J. Ross beginning in 1912 and opened for play in 1916. Constructed on the highest point of the County it was aptly named Hillcrest. This championship layout measures 6,763 yards and has played host to a number of large tournaments over the years.

Donald James Ross (born November 19, 1960) is a Canadian fingerstyle guitarist. He was the first person to win the National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship twice (1988 and 1996). His album Huron Street reached the top ten on the Billboard New-age chart.
