Kaizer Chiefs are known as "Amakhosi" by its fans, a Zulu word meaning "kings" or "chiefs". Their headquarters is Kaizer Chiefs Village, in Naturena, six kilometres south of Johannesburg. [6] The 2001–02 season was one of the Club's most successful in their history as well as their most tragic.

The 2020–21 season was Kaizer Chiefs' 25th season in the South African Premier Division, the highest division of South African football league system. After finishing in second place in the 2019–20 season , Kaizer Chiefs entered the 2020–21 CAF Champions League .

[1] In December 2022 Kaizer Chiefs reached an agreement with the Municipality of Polokwane and signed an agreement to play some of their home games at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane. [2]
Kaizer Chiefs are holding the team Pre-season camp in Mpumalanga.The Team will travel back to Johannesburg on 15 July 2023. They will travel to Tanzania to face off against Young Africans S.C. in a friendly match and will travel to Botswana for their second friendly match against Township Rollers F.C.

It will be participating in 3 cup competitions including the current 2024-25 South African Premier Division after occupying the 10th position on the log table in the previous 2023–24 and missing out on the qualification for the 2024 MTN 8.

On 16 March 2020, all matches for the remainder of the week were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, [2] with matches later postponed indefinitely. [3]In June 2020, the league was given permission to resume, [4] with it being announced the following month that the season would restart on 11 August 2020, with matches being played behind closed doors at neutral venues in Gauteng.
