Ratu Seru Epenisa Cakobau (pronounced [ˈseru epeˈniːsa ðakomˈbau]; occasionally spelled Cacobau or phonetically Thakombau) (c.1815 – 1 February 1883) [1] was a Fijian chief, monarch, and warlord who united part of Fiji's warring tribes under his leadership, establishing a united Fijian kingdom.
Talakuli was the eldest child of Ratu Sir George Cakobau (the late 11th Vunivalu of Bau and Governor-General). [3] Her siblings include Ratu Epenisa Cakobau (half-brother), Ratu George Cakobau, Jr. and Adi Litia Cakobau. She married Manasa Talakuli, who was the first Fijian to be commissioned in the British Army.
Her brother, Ratu George Cakobau Jr., was also a Senator from 2001 to 2006, but was nominated by the Great Council of Chiefs rather than the government, as she was. She died at her home in Lautoka in October 2019 at the age of 78.
