The following outline is provided as an overview of and topical guide to Mauritius: Mauritius – sovereign island nation located in the southwest Indian Ocean about 900 kilometres (560 mi) east of Madagascar. [1] In addition to the Island of Mauritius, the republic includes the islands of St. Brandon, Rodrigues and the Agaléga Islands.
Many endemic plants and animals still occur in the park including the Mauritian flying fox and all of the island's endemic birds: Mauritius kestrel, pink pigeon, Mauritius parakeet, Mauritius cuckooshrike, Mauritius bulbul, Mauritius olive white-eye, Mauritius grey white-eye and Mauritius fody.
The place has become one of Mauritius' main tourist attractions since the 1960s. Nowadays, the dunes are protected by a wooden fence and visitors are not allowed to climb on them, although they can look at the scenery from observation outposts placed along the fence. Curio shops in the area sell small test-tubes filled up with the coloured earths.
