During the mid-1990s, Gayle began venturing into different styles of music. [3] She issued an album of Gospel music entitled Someday in 1995 and an album of Children's music in 2000, In My Arms. [1] She also recorded two albums of American standard songs during this time. Gayle's most recent was 2003's All My Tomorrows. [9]
After releasing Upon This Rock, Capitol Records had no idea how to market it since its content was outside of the standards of the Gospel music genre. [4] Although Norman's concerts were sold out, the album was not selling, so Capitol Records subleased the album to a smaller label.
The album featured 22 gospel recordings in total. [5] The remaining five songs on the collection were considered bonus tracks and all were cover versions of traditional gospel hymns. [4] Most of the album's material was composed by Locklin himself and had originally been penned over the course of a 20-year period.
