Idoxuridine is an anti-herpesvirus antiviral drug.. It is a nucleoside analogue, a modified form of deoxyuridine, similar enough to be incorporated into viral DNA replication, but the iodine atom added to the uracil component blocks base pairing.
Brivudine is used for the treatment of herpes zoster in adult patients. It is taken orally once daily, in contrast to aciclovir, valaciclovir and other antivirals. [1] A study has found that it is more effective than aciclovir, but this has been disputed because of a possible conflict of interest on part of the study authors.
9-Carboxymethoxymethylguanine (CMMG) is a compound which is known as the principal metabolite of the antiviral medication aciclovir (and its prodrug valaciclovir), and has been suggested as the causative agent in the neuropsychiatric side effects sometimes associated with these medications.
