On 12 February 1894, Émile Henry carried out an anarchist attack at the Café Terminus.Initially planning to assassinate Sadi Carnot, the president of the republic, who had just refused to pardon Auguste Vaillant, he decided against the attack upon noticing the large number of police officers stationed around the Élysée Palace.
Émile Henry (26 September 1872 – 21 May 1894) was a French anarchist who engaged in several terrorist attacks. First, he bombed a police station, in 1892, killing 5 people , then, on 12 February 1894 detonated a bomb at the Café Terminus in the Parisian Gare Saint-Lazare , killing one person and wounding seventy.
