Pudong is a district of Shanghai located east of the Huangpu, the river which flows through central Shanghai. The name Pudong was originally applied to the Huangpu's east bank , directly across from the west bank or Puxi , the historic city center.
Shanghai Pudong is the busiest international hub in China, and about half of its total passenger traffic is international. [6] Pudong Airport is connected to Shanghai Hongqiao Airport by Shanghai Metro Line 2 and the Shanghai Maglev Train via Pudong International Airport Station. There are also airport buses connecting it with the rest of the city.
Seven of the districts are situated in Puxi (literally Huangpu West), or the older part of urban Shanghai on the west bank of the Huangpu River. Shanghai Pudong Airport APM is an automated people mover in the Pudong International Airport. In the initial phase, there are two lines, each connecting a terminal building and a satellite hall. The two lines are planned to be connected after the completion of Terminal 3 in the future.
Dongfang Road was firstly established in the late 1950s to accommodate the planning and construction of new residential areas nearby. The road was extended several times along with the urban development of Pudong. In 1994, the road was renamed to Dongfang Road from Wendeng Road after the establishment of Shanghai Oriental TV building. [1] [2]
