Amica Mutual Insurance Company is a Rhode Island–based mutual insurance company that offers auto, home and life insurance. [ 1 ] Amica was founded as the Automobile Mutual Insurance Company of America by A.T. Vigneron in 1907 and originally offered auto, fire and theft insurance. [ 2 ]
The association was founded in 1896 as the National Association of Local Fire Insurance Agents. In 1913, the organization changed its name to the National Association of Insurance Agents when it expanded to include property-casualty business and coverages. The name was changed again in 1975 to the Independent Insurance Agents of America.
Auto-Owners began writing insurance in Indiana, its first state outside of Michigan, in 1935. They now offer insurance in 26 states through local, independent insurance agents.
