The Cork Independent is a free newspaper in Cork, Ireland. The paper is published weekly and contains local news, health and beauty, business, opinion, social events, entertainment, motoring and property as well as input from a number of columnists.
The website was originally divided into four components: TheJournal.ie itself for Irish and international news and opinion; Fora for business news; The 42 (formerly TheScore) for sports news; [8] and The Daily Edge for entertainment and gossip. The Daily Edge ceased operations on 29 March 2019 [9] and Fora on 9 April 2020.
The newspaper's head office was located at 4-6 Prince Street North until its destruction during the Easter Rising of 1916. After its destruction, the newspaper refurbished buildings at 6-8 Townsend Street incorporating the former Dublin Coffee Palace however these were ultimately ransacked by anti-treaty forces in March 1922.
