William Henry Horne (born 1880) was an English professional golfer. He finished in the top 10 in the Open Championship in 1909 and 1920 and was South African Open champion in 1919. He was a well-travelled professional and was also renowned for his long hitting.
The area the park now occupies was previously the southern part of the Horn Park, one of three parks belonging to Eltham Manor, later called Eltham Palace. [1] The historic Horn Park was also known as West Horne [1] [2] and Lee Park; [1] it was the westernmost of Eltham Manor's parks, and slightly closer to Lee, than Eltham.
Horne is a rural village and civil parish in the District of Tandridge in Surrey, England. The parish includes the hamlet of Newchapel , where the British Wildlife Centre is situated. Eastern fields forming a narrow part of the parish are split by the A22 road , a main road to East Grinstead .

An old manor named Horne was recorded on the land in 1242, and later the area was recorded as park of Horn in 1481. [7] Horn Park appears as a named place in a 1762 map by Emanuel Bowen, and an Ordnance Survey map from 1805. [7] The Old English word Horn refers to a 'projecting horn-shaped piece of land'. [7]
