The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine is a public medical school of University of Texas Rio Grande Valley located in Edinburg, Texas. It is fully accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). [1] The UTRGV School of Medicine was established by the Texas Legislature in May 2013.

Valley staff includes more than 1,100 physicians, 3,700 employees, and 3,000 volunteers. In 2020, Valley recorded 41,345 admissions, 51,792 emergency department visits, and 3,528 births. [1]

Texas Southmost College (TSC) was established in 1926 under the name "The Junior College of the Lower Rio Grande Valley." It admitted its first class on September 21 of that same year. In 1931, its name was changed to "Brownsville Junior College." In 1950, the institution was given the name, Texas Southmost College. [citation needed]

In December 2022 the Cape Regional Health System stated that it planned to become a part of Cooper University Health. [1] The agreement to do so was signed in April 2023. [2] Cooper took possession of the hospital on July 1, 2024 and gave it its current name. [3]
