Hongkong Post is a government department of Hong Kong responsible for postal services, though operated as a trading fund. Founded in 1841, it was known as Postal Department or Post Office [ 2 ] ( Chinese : 郵政署 ) before the handover of Hong Kong in 1997.

The post box arrived in the late 19th century Hong Kong and were made of wood. In the 1890s, metal pillar box appeared in Hong Kong and remained in use until the late 1990s. From the 1890s to 1997 the boxes were painted red and after 1997 were painted green. [10]

Post offices are scattered throughout Hong Kong. All of them are managed by Hongkong Post. As of 2020, there are 30 post offices on Hong Kong Island, 35 in Kowloon, 48 in the New Territories and eight on the Outlying Islands. There are also three mobile post offices providing postal services in remote areas in the New Territories.

This old General Post Office building was demolished in 1976, and was functionally relocated to Connaught Place to make way for the construction of the Central station of the MTR below ground. Below the building is the interchange of Hong Kong station and Central station of MTR. World-Wide House, an office block, was constructed above ground.
