Dunmore is a borough in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States, adjoining Scranton. It is part of Northeastern Pennsylvania and was settled in 1835 and incorporated in 1862. Extensive anthracite coal , brick, stone, and silk interests had led to a rapid increase in the population from 8,315 in 1890 to 23,086 in 1940.

The building was formerly used as a Dunmore School District Elementary School, called Jefferson Elementary school, but in 1982, after the elementary school closed down, the [N.E.I.U. #19] [1] began renting out the building for their own use. As of 2006, the N.E.I.U. #19 has gained full ownership of the building and is no longer renting it.

Southern Columbia has two buildings. One is an elementary school housing kindergarten to fourth grade. Ground was broken in 1974 and the building opened in 1976. The elementary building has a gymnasium/cafeteria. The other is a high school housing ninth to twelfth grades built in 1961.
