All medical colleges until 1986 were established by the government. Currently, there are 37 public medical colleges, these provide 5380 seats every year for students undertaking MBBS. While the 68 private medical colleges provide 6040 seats. 6 colleges are run by Bangladesh Armed Forces which offer 375 seats.
