Beyond Paradise is a spin-off of the long-running crime series Death in Paradise. The first series premiered on 24 February 2023. [1] On 8 April 2023, the series was renewed for a second series and a Christmas special. [7] [8] On 26 April 2024, another Christmas special and a third series were commissioned. [9] [10]
The film is inspired by Cunningham's years in Hawaii. Mark Thompson (played by Roy Newton) leaves Los Angeles and moves with his mother to the Big Island and befriends three "locals", Ronnie (Lorenzo Callendar), Zulu (Kalani) and Keao (Daryl Bonilla).

He has played Nick Harper in My Family, Colin Frissell in the 2003 film Love Actually, Gratiano in The Merchant of Venice, and Murder City (2006–2008), and Dave in the first series of Citizen Khan (2012). He played DI Humphrey Goodman in Death in Paradise from 2014 to 2017 and reprised the role in Beyond Paradise in 2023.

The series, titled Beyond Paradise, will "pick up Humphrey and Martha’s story as they navigate a new life together in the idyll of rural Britain." Death in Paradise has already produced the Devon-set spin-off Beyond Paradise, but Ralf Little thinks there could be shows set in the USA and the Maldives.
