The Great Salt Plains Lake is located at the park and covers 9,300 acres (38 km 2) with 41 miles (66 km) of shoreline and is a shallow, salty lake with fishing opportunities for catfish, saugeye, sandbass and hybrid striper. The average depth is reportedly 4 feet (1.2 m) and the impoundment capacity is 31,420 acre-feet.
Dripping Springs Lake was designated as Oklahoma's first trophy bass lake. The park is adjacent to Okmulgee Park and Okmulgee Lake. [3] This lake has a surface area of 1,100 acres (450 ha) and a relatively flat shoreline of 18 miles (29 km). [4]
Fishing for stripers can be a rewarding experience for the experienced fisherman. Keepers caught from the surf commonly weigh in from 20 to 40 pounds. But they can grow much larger. [citation needed] Stripers are migratory, and will move up and down the coasts and into river systems to spawn, and back out to sea throughout the year.
The lake is open for a number of things including, fishing, ATVs or dirt bikes, R.C. airplanes, boating (sailing, Water skiing, and jet skiing). Water skiing is allowed in the main body of the lake, but swimming is prohibited everywhere in the lake. There are four covered fishing piers, primitive campgrounds, picnic grounds, grills and rest rooms.
The park borders Raymond Gary Lake, which covers 263 acres (106 ha) and offers opportunities for fishing, boating, swimming, and camping. [2] [3] [4] Park facilities include a fishing dock (handicap accessible), two unlighted boat ramps, picnic sites, recreational vehicle sites, six cabins, a swimming area and children's playground. Roman Nose State Park is one of the original seven Oklahoma state parks. [3] Sitting in a small canyon, recreation activities at this state park include a golf course, swimming pools, hiking trails, two lakes (Lake Watonga and Lake Boecher), trout fishing in season, canoeing, paddle boats, mountain biking, horse stables and hayrides.
The lake and surrounds are popular destinations for boating, fishing and hunting. Facilities at the lake include boat ramps, picnic areas, RV and tent campsites, swimming beaches, hiking trails and concession stands.
