Hello everyone. I have a few indoor plants. One of them is a purple shamrock that is very beautiful but it recently got sick very suddenly. The leaves seem to be locally thinning and the thin areas look white. I have attached some photos. The first image shows the healthy leaves before it got sick. The second and third image show the sick leaves.

Mix 1 TBSP per pint of water and dip the entire plant in it. then repot as normal ! You can also use this as a spray if you have bugs again ! Will not hurt the plants ! I use the same chemical on my vegetable garden but stronger ! If you want the organic equivalent get the cat spray ! Its approved organic !

North Central Texas, Zone 8a. Hi Kathy, I have a couple of suggestions about what your plant could be but without a picture it will be hard to know for sure. From what you describe, it could be a Mexican Petunia. Mine do not have purple/green leaves but yours could be getting more sun which would make the leafs darker.

This is a picture of the starts I did a while ago. they have almost tripled in length. I started 5 of them and have 10 now with 1 extra off the stems and 4 out of the ground. These are in the south window and although get no direct sunlight they are purple as can be. Guess indirect light is just as good. This is the original plant.

They don't close at night, each bloom only lasts one day or until the heat of the day gets too much for them. But they bloom a lot all spring, summer and thru fall until the first freeze.

But some articles I have read say that there is a chance the purple can be maintained by making sure the plant is getting at least 6 hour of full sun, they might be lacking nitrogen and possibly the removal of the green leaves is supposed to help the plant maintain the purple color. toni, Sep 30, 2011. #2.

This Shamrock has been putting up a good fight all year. (The pot it's in is about 18 inches across). Oxalis triangularis (Purple Shamrock) ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden) This one likes it pretty shady, but I've seen one in a mostly sunny spot and it was doing well, too. I have a couple more started too.
