Located within a rural area of Waterloo State Recreation Area, Green Lake is accessible directly from M-52.Two hiking and biking trails travel along the lake. The 20-mile (32.2 km) Waterloo–DTE Energy Foundation Trail has its trailhead at the north end of Green Lake and includes the Green Lake Loop, which travels for 5.2 miles (8.4 km) through the forests around Green Lake.
Interlochen State Park is a public recreation area covering 187 acres (76 ha) on the isthmus between Green Lake and Duck Lake in Grand Traverse County, Michigan. The park offers swimming, year-round fishing, picnicking, camping, and boat launches. [3]

There are 13 state underwater preserves covering 2,450 square miles (6,300 km 2) of Great Lakes bottomland and ten of them have a maritime museum or interpretive center in a nearby coastal community. [4] The DNR Parks and Recreation Division also manages 138 state forest campgrounds (including a dozen equestrian campgrounds).
As the name suggests, Lakeshore Campground is right on Greenwater Lake. Hilltop is the largest with 87 sites and Aspen is the smallest with 12. The campgrounds all have access to fire pits, picnic tables, potable water, waste disposal, showers, and flush toilets. [9] The park also has 28 cabins for rent, 18 of which are winterised. [10]
Round Lake National Natural Landmark lies within Green Lakes State Park, which lies a few miles east of the city of Syracuse, New York and adjoining the village of Fayetteville. Round Lake itself and the adjoining 59 acres (24 ha) of old-growth forest were designated a National Natural Landmark in 1973 by the U.S. Department of the Interior . [ 2 ]
