The Menlo athletic teams are called the Oaks. The college is a member of NCAA Division II, primarily competing in the Pacific West Conference (PacWest) for most of its sports since the 2015–16 academic year; while its men's & women's wrestling and men's volleyball teams compete in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF).

Menlo was established in 1915 and in 1927, a junior college was added, which later became Menlo College. The college was formally separated from Menlo School in 1994, but the two institutions shared a number of facilities, including a single dining hall, until 2017, when Menlo School built a separate cafeteria. The reclassification process from one NCAA division to another requires three to five years, except for moves to Division II. Moves from Division III or another national governing body (such as the NAIA) to Division II typically requires three years, but as of 2024 can be expedited to only need two. [2]

All years listed refer to men's volleyball seasons; since NCAA men's volleyball is a spring sport, any team listed as joining a new conference in the future will actually join in the calendar year before beginning competition in the new league.
