Temecula (/ t ə ˈ m ɛ k j ʊ l ə /; Spanish: Temécula, ; Luiseño: Temeekunga) is a city in southwestern Riverside County, California, United States.The city had a population of 110,003 as of the 2020 census [7] and was incorporated on December 1, 1989.
The village of Temecula originated on a bluff on the south bank of Temecula Creek opposite the old Wolf's Store according to an 1853 survey. [ 7 ] In 1948, the owners of the Vail Ranch built a 132-foot-high (40 m) dam on Temecula Creek, Vail Lake Dam, approximately 10 miles (16 km) above the confluence with the Santa Margarita River.

Murrieta Creek runs 13 miles (21 km) southeasterly through southwestern Riverside County, California, United States, through the cities of Wildomar, Murrieta, and Temecula, ending 0.5 miles (0.80 km) southeast of the city center of Temecula, where it has its confluence with Temecula Creek and forms the head of the Santa Margarita River.
Wolf Valley lies south of Temecula Creek. The southern end of the graben valley is where the Elsinore Fault Zone changes the direction of strike along the southern side of Agua Tibia Mountain, northeast of Pala Mountain. [1] The valley is drained by Pechanga Creek and its tributaries, itself a tributary of the Santa Margarita River. [2] [3]
