Abigail Gibbons was built by J. A. Jones Construction Co., Brunswick, Georgia. Her keel was laid on 1 September 1944. She was launched on 12 October and delivered on 25 October. [13] Built for the WSA, she was operated under the management of American-Foreign Steamship Co. She was laid up at Mobile, Alabama post-war. [2]
