In the Share sheet, tap on "Copy". This copies as plain text! Tap still selected text to get the context menu again. In the context menu tap on "Paste" to replace the selected, formatted text with its plain text representation. Still (too) many hoops to jump through but at least you don't need to switch between apps.
I would like to be able to copy and paste multiple items on a Mac using key shortcuts. For example, ⌘1 would copy item 1 and ⌘2 would copy item 2, etc. Then ⌘! would paste item 1 and ⌘@ would paste item 2. If there is already a program for this please let me know or if you can make me one. Also I need it to be a free program.
If I was to select via cursor and highlight server.example.com, it will instead re-highlight the entire command and copy that. It is so annoying because I copy stuff all day long. I copy by either pressing Command+C, or right clicking to get the dialog menu and selecting copy which is the same as doing “Edit” → “Copy”, on the toolbar.
An answer for OSX Lion (circa 2014): You can also type ⌘+^+Space (aka Cmd-Ctrl-Space) or Fn+Eto bring up the characters menu, then start typing to search, and search for place of interest, then press enter to start selecting them, then tab to the correct result, then enter again to insert it.
