Rayvanny was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Latin Pop Album category for his collaboration with Colombian singer Maluma on their song “Mama Tetema” which was originally made by Rayvanny featuring Diamond Platnumz being produced by S2Kizzy. Karunaratne Abeysekera (3 June 1930 – 20 April 1983) was one of Sri Lanka's most famous Sinhala broadcasters. He was also a poet and songwriter and was widely admired for his excellent command of Sinhala. [2] Abeysekera wrote the lyrics to over 2,000 songs, a record for a lyricist in Sri Lanka.
Upali Kannangara (5 January 1951 – 12 December 2018: Sinhala: උපාලි කන්නංගර), was a Sri Lankan musician, singer and accompanist. [2] Starting as a guitar player, Kannangara became one of the most popular singers in Sri Lanka particularly in the outdoor musicals with popular songs such as Iwasillak Na Dakina Thura, Dumbara Mitiyawatha, Parata Kittuwa and Gele Ranmala.
The Gypsies are a Sri Lankan baila band that performs Sinhala and English songs. [2] They are a highly paid band in Sri Lanka, as they constantly perform at parties, dances and at many concerts.
He was well known for establishing long time relationship with legendary musician Sunil Santha, who is known as one of the icons and pioneers of Sinhala music. He had worked as a playback singer in many Sinhala films including Sri Lanka's first Sinhala film Rekava. He died on 18 June 2018 at his home in Seeduwa at the age of 86. [2]
