The Best FIFA Football Awards is a football award presented annually by the sport's governing body, FIFA. [1] The first awarding ceremony was held on 9 January 2017 in Zürich, Switzerland. [2] The award is aimed at reviving the FIFA World Player Gala. [3] This award being given to the players with best performance in the calendar year.
The current award was introduced in the 1982 FIFA World Cup, sponsored by Adidas and France Football. [5] Oliver Kahn is to date the only goalkeeper to have won the award, which he did in the 2002 FIFA World Cup. At the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Lionel Messi became the first player to win a second Golden Ball. [6]
