When Michigan Stamping was sold to Briggs Manufacturing Company in 1920, Briggs made bodies there for Plymouth, Ford, and others. Chrysler Corporation bought Mack Avenue and 11 other plants from Briggs in 1953. It continued to use it as a stamping plant for the nearby Dodge Main factory, Lynch Road Assembly, and Jefferson Avenue Assembly plants.
There also was once the nearby "Sherwood Assembly" that closed in the late 1970s when Chrysler halted production of the Dodge Medium and Heavy Duty trucks and exited the market. Conner Center, previously known as Conner Avenue Assembly, is a Stellantis North America facility in Detroit, Michigan. The facility opened in 1966 as a factory for spark plug company Champion . It was closed by Cooper Industries in 1990 shortly after their acquisition of Champion. [ 1 ]
It uses the original site of the former multi-story Chrysler Kercheval Body Plant, a noted Detroit landmark for a series of large advertising signs on the roof, [3] plus the Hudson Motor Company location that was originally built during the 1940s as a storage lot for newly manufactured vehicles to the east of the facility.
