BEIRUT (Reuters) - Hashem Safieddine, the top Hezbollah official widely expected to succeed slain secretary general Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in an Israeli attack, the group said Wednesday.
After Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Hezbollah's headquarters in September 2024, Safieddine was widely expected to be named as his successor. [34] [6] He was recognized for his similarity to Nasrallah in both appearance and manner of speaking, [4] and for his strong ties with the Iranian regime and the Ayatollah. [27]
