Susan Owens (born August 19, 1949) [1] is an American lawyer who has served as an associate justice of the Washington Supreme Court from 2001 to 2024. On November 7, 2000, she was elected the seventh woman to serve on the court.
Unlike the Supreme Court, where one justice is specifically nominated to be chief, the office of chief judge rotates among the district court judges. To be chief, a judge must have been in active service on the court for at least one year, be under the age of 65, and have not previously served as chief judge.
Johnson has served on the Washington Supreme Court longer than any other current Justice. He was first elected to the Washington Supreme Court in 1990, gaining re-election in 1996, 2002, and 2008. He was re-elected again in 2014 and 2020 and is currently serving his sixth term, which will run until 2027.
