In 1861, [3] the company constructed the Ogden Slip. [4] Ogden, who had no children of his own, left a large share of the company to his niece Eleanor Wheeler after his 1877 death. In 1857, the State of Illinois sold 40 acres (160,000 m 2), including the site later to be known as DuSable Park, to the Chicago Dock and Canal Trust.
